Hey Everyone,
So glad you stopped by the new site. We’ve been experiencing extra traffic ever since one of our favorite Bible Study teachers, Beth Moore, decided to facilitate the “No Other Gods” study on her blog this summer. (You can check it out here if you’d like to read more about it). If this is your first time here please feel free to look around and thank you for being patient with us as we are still working to get everything up and running.
Since many of you are visiting for the first time I thought I would give a little background on what the Living Room Series is all about… Three summers ago I decided to start a Bible study with four other women/girls (I still think of myself as a girl, though my back hurts and I’m starting to get lines around my eyes so perhaps I should embrace womanhood sooner than later). The five of us met together once a week in our homes, cooked for one another, spent hours leisurely around the table in delightful dinner conversation, studied the Bible, prayed, and usually ended with some sort of dessert/coffee blend. Our gatherings were simple. No more complicated than sharing meals and our pursuit of Christ and His Word.
After several meetings I felt impressed and passionate about the topic of “no other gods”, mostly because it’s been the small and false gods that have robbed me too often. The flipside of this is that I’ve missed out on experiencing all that God desires to be in my life. The great news for me was discovering that I didn’t need to stay here, and perhaps that’s one of the primary goals of this study.
Since we met and ate for well over a year together, we thought it would be fun to share with you our recipes, along with some of our favorite songs and candle scents. These extras are printed in the Bible study but can also be found on the site along with lots of extras. What we’d love for YOU to do is share some of your own favorite recipes in the recipe section. We can’t wait to try them!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
The group I am in can’t wait to get started.
We are still waiting on our books. God is teaching us patience. Just sit and wait. It sounds like a great study.
God Bless you and your group.
Have great and joyful summer!

Hi Kelly,
I have just read your book and plan on doing the workbook with my friends in a few months. I LOVED the book—- and wanted to share something GOD did for me one morning this week. I had just found out dear friends of ours the wife had left the husband and two kids for another man. This is a Christian couple—-I was heart broken. I had just finished pouring my heart out to God on their behalf and picked up your book. I read p.164—look and you will see how incredible our God is and how He reassured me He is control. Thanks again, Tammy

While reading Day 4 of Session 3 the old hymn came to me and thought you might connect. Here’s the first verse..
I am resolved, no longer to linger, charmed by the world’s delights
Things that are higher, things that are nobler
These have allured my sights
I will hasten to THEM, hasten so GLAD and FREE
JESUS – GREATEST HIGHEST I will come to Thee

First visit. Doing the Bible study with a group in TX and we’ve met for one session. We had a great time of prayer, distributed the books, and spent way too much time oggling the recipes. I identify with your “girls”. I have a degree in Music Education, but have played violin in symphonies, quartet gigs, and other venues for more than 40 years. I have a studio with 34 students ranging in age from 3-83. Love them all! Let’s hear it for taking the arts for God!!!!

This is my first Bible Study thru this program. I pray for my Bibile Study, Anna, lead which invited me to participate to it and to the other girls that are part of it. She invited us to the first session and it was very good. Thank you very much and God bless you all.

Kelly- Our group begins this Wednesday night and we are so excited. God led me to your workbook and placed a few names on my heart. I’m 54 and leading with another “mom” in that age group. We have 8 young women from age 22-30 in various stages of life. Some are single, some married, one with a child and one expecting soon! Can you tell we’re stoked to get to share with one another? All of us are involved with ministry in some way. Being wives of minsters, being on staff, interning, teaching studies, singing, or volunteering – we share a love of minstry. What a cool opportunity to spend weeks with these amazing young ladies. And who knows, maybe us old gals can add a twinkle or two. Imagine my delight when I saw my favorite study leader, Beth Moore, was led to this as well. Thank you for sensing God’s call to write this study. I know He will use it for all of us in a mighty way as we identify and defeat the false gods in our lives. Bless you.

Just started last week with Beth Moore! We are a group of Kentucky gals (we call ourselves “Kentucky Siestas”) which are meeting online via our blog. We wanted to let you know how much we are enjoying No Other Gods!

This is my first time here in the living room. I’m on day 5 of week one in No Other Gods and enjoying it so much. God is bringing to mind all those things that are taking his first place. I especially like your song First in my Heart. I want that of God in my life. I want only eyes for him.

This study has been wonderful! I just know that God is going to teach me great things and show me what has been taking up room in my heart.

I am very excited about starting this study. I wish there was a DVD of Kelly giving her personal introduction & a song to show the group prior to the study. That would be very special. Thanks for all the great recipes too!
Love ya!

Kelly — wow! I just completed week 6 of NOG and the Lord is truly using this Bible study to speak to my spirit.
I picked up NOG because I loved the concept of confronting modern-day idols and I was looking for something that would draw younger women into Bible study. I’ve been blown away at how the Lord has spoke to me through you. Thank you for being that vessel that God can use.
I’m following the Beth Moore group, too, but I know that the Lord wanted me all to Himself the first time I went through NOG — and isn’t it wonderful when He does that.
May the Lord continue to bless you and use you for His glory.

Thanks so much, Kelly for sharing your heart in No Other gods.
I am a “Siesta” from Beth’s blog at LPM and I probably would not have found out about you if not for her. I’m older than your target audience – just turned 49. I have “done” church on and off all of my life, but just two years ago I was truly saved by HIS grace out of a pit – hence finding Beth “Get Out Of That Pit”.
I wanted to tell you that your Bible study (I’ve just done Week 1) has opened my eyes to something that I’ve been studying and praying for over 2 years!!!
When you had us look from the Old Testament to the New being a holy, treasured possession of GOD, my spiritual eyes were so opened!
I know it’s so much more complex that what I see and yet, it’s all I was looking for. I, as a woman saved by HIS grace, am now one of HIS chosen people. Just as HE took Abraham and then the children of Israel, and called them apart to HIMSELF as chosen – I have become part of HIS chosen.
So many people are still fighting and fighting about chosen or freely choosing. I was so bombarded on both sides of the issue! I just get it now because of this Bible Study. I don’t need any further debates. It simply solves it for me. HE knows who will choose HIM of course, but being Chosen is not a club, it is a faith in HIM.
Thank You Kelly for being obedient to Your Father in all things!
Praying for you!

Kelly, this Bible study has been a tremendous gift to the ladies at our church. We just finished discussing the week three “Lies” chapter, and the Holy Spirit moved so powerfully during our discussion time that I could hardly breathe. His presence was unmistakable and covered it all!
Our situation is unique b/c we really did not have the people that could facilitate in their homes, so we “broke the rules” a little and we have 33 ladies in there. I worried it would be difficult, but let me tell you…it has been an overflow of discussion and then a surrounding of much love and accountability. The food is exceptional and the conversation is flowing. What a great concept for a Bible study, and really what our everyday life should be with people. Be encouraged today that our new church start, LifeSong, in Lyman, SC is finding penetrating truth in this study! All the best!

Kelly,
We are loving the study!! Well, I say loving it, we are feeling very convicted by it. I think that is a good thing, too.
Love the look of the website. Hope to hear from you during this summer study time. I was so excited when I saw recipes AND candle scents suggested in the study. I love to get all my senses involved. It is so fun to try the recipes and try new candle scents too.
Thanks for sharing with us.

Our group had determined to go through your study just one short week before Beth announced she was facilitating – so we are doubly committed! Love the online aspect of the study. I have to say the first two weeks of homework have nailed me to the wall already.
Can’t wait for more? :)

The NOG study is wonderful. Praise the Lord for working through you and your friends. I am doing this with Beth Moore’s on line group. What a blessing. God is working in the lives of so many.
I saw you in concert several years ago with Watermark (I think). What a blessing then too.
Thank you!

Good morning everyone. Wow, what a great site to utilize. I personally, have never done this before so be patient. First, my group does not know how to use or set up a blog so we have been connecting by mass email. It has been working out quite well and has definitey added to the dimension of the study. There is just not enough time to talk about all of the great stuff Kelly’s book has stirred up, so we decided to utilize e mail to connect during the week. Bonus: It keeps the study in front of us all week long instead of Monday night before tuesdays group. Part 2: I would like the recipe for the peach cobbler that is from the book. I looked on the site and I can’t find it. Does anyone have it? Thanks Kelly for a great study, absolutely outstanding.

Kelly,
I am so excited! We have a ladies Bible Study group the meets at my church every Wednesday Night. About two weeks ago… with no knowledge of the Beth Moore Summer study.. and no knowledge of you… our group picked your Study, ‘No Other Gods’!!
I visit Beth Mooore’s blog on occasion but did not get to for several weeks.. just three days ago, I went there and was just so blown away when I learned that she too had picked this study! Then while studying the first section in your book, I learned about your Web site.
Thank you so much Kelly for sharing this wonderful study with us! I know our group is excited to meet starting tonight and go for the next six(or more) weeks on this journey. (We start July 9, 2008)
I can not wait to see what the Lord does in our group of ladies, and I look forward to hearing about others who are doing the study as well.
Praying for you in your ministry as well!

Kelly,
This is my first time on your blog. I am participating in the summer series with the rest of the Beth Moore gals. I wanted to affirm the work God has done through you with this study, it has been so insightful for me. Is there an email address, or avenue I can shoot you a few more details? Well done, sista!

I am really enjoying the bible study No Other Gods. After doing the study one day I was inspired by your comment “make room” I wrote this and e-mailed it to my friends. Anyway I hope you enjoy.
Making Room an Analogy
By Heather
My friends may or may not know this but I love my closet. It is really beautiful. It is organized, by color and item. I have these really beautiful wooden hangers, it is, in my opinion a work of art. Michelangelo has nothing on me.
One of the things that make my closet so beautiful is that it is not overstuffed. One of the first things that people comment on is the fact that I don’t have a lot of clothes in there. See I am kind of known for dressing rather fashionable, so it surprises people that my closet is not stuffed to the gills with clothes. I guess they assume that to look good you have to have a lot of clothes, or maybe they don’t know the fine art of getting rid of things you don’t need. Over the years I have developed some rules about my closet and one rule is “don’t add hangers”. This rule actually came out of budget issues. Like I said I have these beautiful wooden hangers, they make my closet look like a really nice, upscale store, but they are not cheap. So if I bought a new top and I did not have a wooden hanger I would need to get rid of an old top, I don’t do plastic. That is another rule “no plastic hanger”, it is like “no wire hangers” just less violent. This rule also helps when I am shopping for example: the other day I bought a new top, it was a good buy (50% off plus an extra 25%), it will go with some things I already have, and it will help to create some new outfit, I mean come on, I had to get it. The only problem, all my hangers were in use and you know the rule “don’t add hangers”. So I had two options, buy the bargain of a top and get rid of something I already had, or don’t get the bargain of a top and leave everything the way it is. Well I got it and I knew what I had to get rid of, the pink top.
I bought this top sometime last year, it was on sale, it went with pants I already had and I had a hanger for it, in other words it fit into my rules for a beautiful closet. However, there was one problem; it was not flattering on me at all. Now you may be wondering why I even bought it, one word Jackie. Not Jackie O. Jackie at work. Jackie is every insecure woman’s worst nightmare. She is young, tall, blond, model thin, and looks good in anything. I am, of course, very aware that I am the complete opposite of Jackie: old, short, brunette, and fat but I do know what I look good in, what flatters, what hides so why did I buy the pink top. Because, every once and a while I forget who I am. I sometimes think I am still young, and thin (I never was tall or blond) and every once and a while I think what looks good on Jackie will look good on me, I can over come the tall thing with an ancient family secret -high heels. Now believe it or not when I put on the pick top it did not miraculous transform me into my younger, thinner self, go figure. Looking back I can’t believe I was so stupid to keep it because every time I wore it I felt very unattractive and it soon became my “that time of the month top” and then my “I hate my job top” and my “no one will ever want to marry me top” and finally my “Lord, why won’t you just call me home top” (for all you non-Baptist that means “let me die”). Yeap, this top was a great bargain, for the low price of $2.99 I got more self doubt than I could ever imagine. SCORE!
Now there is nothing inherently wrong with the top, it is just nice soft pink material that covers up my private parts, so what was the big deal? I allowed the top to become an idol of sorts. I didn’t need it, I didn’t want it, it didn’t make me feel good, I didn’t like it, and it did not help me to think on the wonders of our amazing Lord, and I am pretty sure no clothes would (a Chanel purse maybe). Every time I wore it I was either consumed by my physical flaws or I allowed myself to wallow in self pity. It became an idol to my insecurity and to make room for a cute summer top that helps me to see my good physical qualities the pink top had to go.
Now if this was a work of fiction this last paragraph would tell about how once I got rid of the pink top I immediately lost 60 lbs and while wearing the new top one day I finally met my very rich and rugged husband, and I have never had a problem with self-doubt ever again . . . but, this is not a work of fiction, this is my life. I am still overweight, I am single and I still battle with self-doubt, however when I am looking for something to add fuel to the flame of self-doubt, there is one less tool that the enemy can use on me, because I made room.
Next time,
Rain storms: God’s little watering can or the enemy’s way to worry away a day.

Okay, I’m in the study this summer…I had my doubts about doing it…I’m over 50, (probably old enough to be your mother) and initially was doing it so I can give it to my daughter (who lives in Wash. DC) and her girls Bible Study group to do..Kelly, you have spoken words that come directly from my heart. Our needs are universal as women, no matter what our age. The Lord has used your study to speak to my heart….My kids are grown, I work alot (still have one in college), am dealing with aging gracefully and see how all my “idols” are still there. Thank you for sharing your heart, your words and struggles; your vulnerability propels me to be honest before the Lord. blessings on you as you minister to us all….Pam in San Diego

Kelly,
I just want to take a moment to let you know what a blessing the NOG study has been. I just finished the re-visit on Abraham and Isaac( Session 6 day 4). Although all of these have been wonderful I am really being challenged to meditate more on the Abraham situation-Hagar, Sarah, Isaac, Ishmael, Ram, Lamb, process, detail, concept, faith, God My Provider…etc… all of this has been outstanding! I am finding so many treasures and answers there! Thank you for your obedience! The digging has been good!
God bless you and your journey of faith in Him!

Ok, I’m back because I just did my study today- Session 7 day 1.
Without going into too much detail, my husband and I felt that God was moving us from this place to another. We have handed over all of our ministry positions, by Gods leading and put our house for sell. Now, we are just in a waiting time. We know that we had to transition from the volunteer positons we were in but now
at least Ifeel “left at the bus stop.” It is a season I never expected or anticipated. It was really good to meditate on the verses you shared in this session and the point about sticking with it til the end. It is such good timing and it is hitting home
or making a touch downor whatever.Lots of Love to you for your obedience in Him,
Tabby

I wanted to hear the Song Of My Surrender by Anadara. It said I could come here to hear it. As you have guessed I am not very good at this computer stuff. If you can will you please tell me how I can hear this song. Also what is Anadara’s last name, maybe I can find it this way.
I love doing your Bible study No Other Gods. I get so much out of music so I really have enjoyed all your music. (I cannot sing, I mean I cannot even care my tune in a bucket.) That still does not keep me from trying, I can only hope God thinks of it as a joyful noise. Be Blessed, J

Loved the Bible study!!!!
Hope you will be doing more!
I appreciated the insight you shared from your life and the hard core reality of the idols I had taking up space in my life.
